As summer wraps up and the fall season kicks in, the fishing will remain strong with more bait showing up with the mullet run, cooler weather and the start of clearer waters moving into October. This past month saw some incredible fishing on both the north and south side of the Ponce Inlet jetty. Schools of redfish and snook were taking their territory and the anglers were reaping the benefits!

Abandoned boats along the Intracoastal Waterway and beaches of Volusia County are not only a blight on the natural environment, but they also often pose threats to safe navigation and endanger marine life and habitat. In addition, abandoned or derelict vessels can cause serious damage to docks and property as they drift on or beneath the water’s surface.

I recently noticed my 25-year-old Danforth/fluke-style anchor was coming apart. We use our boat more often than most owners, so it wasn’t surprising that we needed to replace it with “like and kind.” But for those who are starting from scratch, choosing the right anchor is not just about weight.

As our summer heat continues to pulse at high temperatures the fishing bite remains just as hot. Both inshore and offshore fishing has had amazing action!

Summer is in full swing and the heat is blazing both the ocean and the river! This doesn’t stop the fish though as the bite is just as hot! This time of the year the Snook really gets fired up and seems more aggressive.

In the famous balcony scene in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Juliet muses, “That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” She argues that a name is arbitrary and superficial. Juliet proved to be fatally wrong when it came to the feuding Capulets and Montagues.

There is no general speed limit on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) or on navigable rivers or lakes in Florida. However, speeds are heavily restricted in congested areas, near bridges, marinas, or protected wildlife zones, requiring strict adherence to posted signs.

Summertime, and the living’s easy! The bite is hotter than the temperatures, with snook, flounder, black drum and redfish keeping the lines tight.
