From a Home Kitchen to a Community’s Choice for Best Bakery in Volusia-Flagler

We can't believe it's been a year! There have been many ups and downs, but a year in, Dutch Oven Bread Co. has found its rhythm. We still think about opening week. The first transport of product from our kitchen to the bakery, people lining up outside, and seeing the same faces who'd supported us from the very beginning standing first in line. It was so surreal!

Our story started in 2020 during Covid, when we both lost our jobs and leaned on our backgrounds - restaurant work, hobby baking and entrepreneurship - to start making bread and sweets out of our home kitchen. From there, we worked pop-ups and markets to get our name and product into the community's hands, all while developing recipes and building a team.

This year brought real milestones, including winning Community's Choice for Best Bakery in Volusia-Flagler! It also brought real growing pains, specifically learning to communicate as a team with very different styles and strong opinions. Fab has become the hands-on overseer at the bakery, while Candice has shifted to working on the business: networking, advertising, and empowering our employees to create and lead with confidence.

That shift shows. The bakery now runs smoothly without Candice there full-time and during the slower season, Tuesdays run without either owner present. That's a credit to our team's dedication and patience as everyone finds their flow!

Customers keep asking for three things: iced coffee, a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and a way to warm up pastries. We're listening, and we're working on it!
